
As an established and busy research station, ATREC offers
the following facilities at Springfield Guesthouse:
Rainforested and Agricultural Land:
- Total 198 acres of land available for agriculture and biodiversity
conservation research
- Land has been chemical-free for the last ten years, suitable
for organic and sustainable agriculture research.
- Research sites and habitats accessible by trail or road
- Demonstration organic farm run by the Dominica Youth Division
of the Ministry for Education
- Forested land consisting of secondary rainforest – historically
growing sugar cane, coffee and citrus
- Fresh water systems: Springs, rivers and a spring-fed pond.
Over 60 acres of Springfield land is a nationally protected watershed area.

Lab Facilities
Field laboratory:
- Storage cabinets
- 220V electrical outlets (110V step-down transformers available)
- Balances
- Dissection microscopes
Analytical lab:
Climate controlled facility is in the process of development
(expected completion early 2006).
NOTE: Lab facilities are currently being up-graded and most
researchers bring their own equipment.
Library Facilities:
- Extensive Springfield herbarium and research paper database
available on CD
- Collection of relevant reference material
- 1200-plus voucher specimens located in Springfield herbarium
- Insect collection in development
Communications:
- Wireless broadband internet connection
- Printer, scanner and digital cameras available on loan
- Pay-phone adjacent to library

- Lap-top computers available for rent (PC)
Classroom:
